The town’s thriving fishing community celebrates its heritage during the weekend-long Provincetown Portuguese Festival (508/487-0086, www.provincetownportuguesefestival.com [2], late June, free) that culminates with the annual “Blessing of the Fleet.”
The Fourth of July Celebration (508/487-7000, www.ptownchamber.com [3], July 4, free) has the best beachside fireworks on the Cape.
Last but not least, Carnival Week (508/487-2313, www.ptown.org [4], late Aug., $5–125) is a seven-day Mardi Gras that features a parade, elaborate dance parties, and performances by internationally renowned drag queens.
