Fresh bounty from the nearby sea is the catch at Lobster Hut (25 Town Wharf, 508/746-2270, 11 a.m.–9 p.m. Tues.–Sat.; 11 a.m.–8 p.m. Sun.; $3–18), the ultra-casual takeout joint. (In nice weather, hit the outdoor deck for a water view.) Kick things off smoothly with the rich lobster bisque, or just dive right into an all-meat lobster roll.
Breakfast is served all day at the All-American Diner (60 Court St., 508/747-4763, http://allamericandiner.biz/ [1], 7 a.m.–3 p.m. daily, $3–8), a wise choice for cheap and hearty (borderline overwhelming, in fact) omelets and decent chili burgers, served at a classic retro diner counter.
With a striking view of Plymouth Harbor, Mamma Mia’s (122 Water St., 508/747-4670, http://mammamiaspizzas.com [2], 11 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, $11–15) is a key spot for families in search of simple pastas and pizzas.
Meanwhile, Mexican and Southwestern fixings get the spotlight at Sam Diego’s (51 Main St., 508/747-0048, www.samdiegos.com [3], 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m. daily, $3–12), though the kids’ menu of burgers and other such simple noshes gets quite a workout, too. It’s also a favorite for its setting—just a few minutes from Plymouth Rock [4] in an old historic fire station.
Meanwhile, no one seems to pay much attention to the setting of Peaceful Meadows Ice Cream (170 Water St., Village Landing, 508/746-2362, 10 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, www.peacefulmeadows.com [5])—for the record, a friendly little waterfront creamery—because they’re far too preoccupied lapping up homemade ice cream and creating their own sundaes from goodies like crushed Oreos, peanut butter sauce, hot apples, and chocolate-covered almonds.
