Marfa’s [1] exquisite three-story Presidio County Courthouse (320 N. Highland St., 432/729-4670, www.co.presidio.tx.us [2]) was built in 1886 and was restored with the help of the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
The building is a remarkable example of Second Empire architecture, featuring a light pink exterior of stone and local brick along with the stylish detailing and mansard roofs fashionable in Europe at the time of its construction. If you’re in town during weekday business hours, pop in for a look at the intricate interior woodwork and impressive attention to detail in the light fixtures and windows.
