Grand. Stately. Ginormous. However you choose to describe it, the spectacular 1886 Bishop’s Palace (1402 Broadway St., 409/762-2475, 10 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Mon.–Sat., noon–4:30 p.m. Sun. and winter months, tours every half-hour, $6 adults, $5 seniors, $3 students, cash only) is the centerpiece of Galveston [1]’s historic Broadway Street. The American Institute of Architects designated Bishop’s Palace as one of the 100 outstanding buildings in the country, and it’s easy to see why.
This Victorian castle exudes elegance, from its ornate fireplaces (one is lined with pure silver) to grand stairway to stained-glass windows and intricately carved furnishings and details.
