Once the largest suspension bridge in the country, the city’s most famous landmark was built in 1870 as a toll bridge spanning the Brazos River along the Chisholm Trail. Traffic crossed under the bridge’s lofty towers for a century, but it has been pedestrian-only since 1971.
The bridge is considered an icon of Waco [1] history and is the backdrop and centerpiece for festivals and events throughout the year. Access the bridge via University Parks Drive between Franklin and Washington Avenues.
