The website of the New Mexico Tourism Board (800/733-6396, ext. 0643, www.newmexico.org [1]) is packed with background information and listings of special events. The organization also publishes the monthly New Mexico magazine (www.nmmagazine.com [2]), which covers both mainstream attractions and more obscure corners of the state. If you plan to do a lot of hiking, order detailed topographical maps from the National Forest Service office in New Mexico (505/842-3292) or from the Bureau of Land Management’s Public Lands Information Center (www.publiclands.org [3]). Santa Fe’s [4] Travel Bug bookstore also stocks an excellent selection of maps; see the Santa Fe [4] chapter for details.
