In order to keep up with the realities of the future, many of the rides in this section of the 50-year-old park have been updated or even replaced over the years. Completely revamped after being down for years, the microscope-style ride is now named “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience.”
Now associated with the Disney movie with a similar title, this ride shrinks the audience down to a miniscule size. You’ll be surrounded by immense shapes—familiar objects blown up to help make you feel little.
Another classic that’s been given a makeover to connect it to a recent Disney blockbuster movie is the Finding Nemo Submarine. On this ride, you and fellow guests board a submarine and descend into a manmade pool. Under water, you’ll find yourself in the brightly colored world of Nemo and his frantic father, filled with an astonishing array of sea life. Help your kids count the number of familiar fish!
Finally, for the bigger visitors, the best thrill ride of the main park sits inside a space-aged building. Space Mountain is a fast roller coaster that whizzes through an almost entirely darkened world. All you’ll see are the stars overhead. You will hear your screams, and those of your fellow passengers, as your “spaceship” swerves and plunges along tracks you cannot see.
Despite its age, Space Mountain remains one of the more popular rides in the park. Consider getting a FastPass to keep out of sometimes-long lines.
