There are few true “sights” along the long thin stretch of sand that is Malibu. One of those worth checking out is the Malibu Pier (23000 Pacific Coast Hwy., www.malibupiersportfishing.com [1]). The pier gets busy in the summertime and lonely in the winter, though the die-hard surfers plying the adjacent three-point break stick around year-round.
A few pier fishermen also brave the so-called chilly weather of the Malibu off-season, but you’ll feel a sense of some solitude when you walk out across the planks.
Some attractions out on the pier include interpretive signs describing the history of Malibu, sport-fishing and whale-watching charters, restaurants and food stands. If you’d prefer to ride the waves yourself, you can rent surf and boogie boards as well as other beach toys on the pier.
