With no supermarkets or chain mini-marts in all of the Big Sur [1] region, the local markets do a booming business. You can stock up on staples such as bread, lunch meat, eggs, milk, marshmallows, and graham crackers at various local stores.

In town, the all-encompassing Fernwood Resort (Hwy. 1, 831/667-2422, www.fernwoodbigsur.com [2]) has a market. You’ll also find a seasonal market in the campground at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park [3].
