One of the jewels of Mammoth Lakes [1], the Mammoth Ski Museum (100 College Pkwy., 760/934-6592, www.mammothskimuseum.org [2], Thurs.–Mon. 11 a.m.–6 p.m., $5 adults, $3 children) houses the largest collection of skiing-related art in the world. Here you’ll find artistic homage in every medium to the human fascination with sliding down snowy mountains on boards.
The museum features the permanent Beekley Collection of sculptures, original paintings, vintage posters, and much more. Short films run daily, and each Friday night at 6 p.m. a full-length ski-themed feature film runs in the Pioneer Theater.
Visit the gift shop to purchase your own reproduction vintage ski posters, books, and DVDs.
