If you’re carb-loading in preparation for climbing Mount Shasta [1], or carb-loading to celebrate a successful climb, hike, swim, or ski, get a table at Mike & Tony’s Restaurant (501 S. Mount Shasta Blvd., 530/926-4792, www.mikeandtonys.net [2], Mon. and Thurs. 5–9 p.m., Fri.–Sat. 5–10 p.m., Sun. 4–9 p.m., $13–22). This casual eatery serves up hearty Americanized Italian favorites, from big bowls of spaghetti to hefty broiled steaks.
There are white cloths on the tables, so it’s probably best to wear your clean T-shirt to this restaurant, but otherwise the atmosphere encourages family and friendliness and fun.
