For a glimpse into the history of the ground you’re treading, visit the Depot Park Museum (270 First St. West, Sonoma, 707/938-1762, www.vom.com/depot [1], Wed.–Sun. 1–4:30 p.m., free). The museum hosts a small set of exhibits inside a reproduction of the historic Northwestern Pacific railroad depot, hence the name.
Inside are reconstructions of the active depot in the Rand Room, a showcase of the Bear Flag Rebellion, and the life of the native Miwok people. Depot Park makes a great half-hour break from the endless wine tastings and spa treatments of Sonoma [2].
