The first thing you’ll notice when you drive up to Hanna (5353 Occidental Rd., Santa Rosa, 707/575-3371, www.hannawinery.com [1], daily 10 a.m.–4 p.m.) is the stunning view down the hillside into the Alexander Valley. The tasting room is surrounded by vineyards climbing up the hills and flowing downward to the foot of the valley.
The tasting room has plenty of windows and a broad wraparound porch to help you take in the vistas. But don’t neglect the wines! Hanna offers a large list, plus a reserve tasting of their finest vintages. In addition to the inevitable Cabernet Sauvignons and Chardonnays, you might find some unusual varieties such as Malbec—ask nicely and you might even sneak a taste!
