You can find amazing East Indian cuisine within San Francisco’s [1] city limits, including at Sultan (340 O’Farrell St., 415/775-1709, daily 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., 5–10 p.m., $15–20). The simplicity of the red-walled dining room makes it all the easier to concentrate on the cuisine.
The chicken masala and garlic naan are local favorites, and the lunch buffet costs about $12.95 for all-you-can-eat delicious food.
Just be aware that if you’re not familiar with spicy cuisines, you’ll want to ask for “not spicy” versions of most dishes. On the other hand, if you’re into the high spice, you’ll find Sultan perfect.
