A number of golf courses hide in the parks of San Francisco [1]. The premier golf course in the City, the Presidio Golf Course (Arguello St., 50 yards from Arguello Gates, 415/561-4653, www.presidiogolf.com [2]) was once reserved for the exclusive use of military officers, government officials, and visiting dignitaries.
Since 1995, its 18-hole, par 72 course, driving range, practice putting greens, and clubhouse have been available to the public. Reserve your tee time by phone or online. Lessons are available, offered by the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy (the Arnold Palmer Management Company operates the course).
Lincoln Park Golf Course (34th Ave. and Clement St., 415/750-4653) is an 80-year-old, public 18-hole, par 68 course in the Outer Richmond district. It hosts the annual San Francisco City Golf Championships.
Another 18-hole municipal golf courses is the Harding Park Golf Course (Skyline Blvd. at Harding Rd., 415/664-4690).
Nine-hole courses with challenging golf and great views include the Golden Gate Park Golf Course (47th Ave. at Fulton St., www.goldengateparkgolf.com [3]) and the Gleneagles Golf Course (2100 Sunnydale Ave., www.gleneaglesgolfsf.com [4]).
For tee times at any municipal course, call 415/750-4653.
