There’s one live show that’s always different, yet it’s been running continuously for three and a half decades. This musical revue is crazy and wacky and offbeat and pretty much defines live theater in San Francisco [1]. It’s Beach Blanket Babylon (678 Green St., 415/421-4222, www.beachblanketbabylon.com [2], shows Wed.–Sun., $25–78).
Even if you saw Beach Blanket Babylon 10 years ago, you should come see it again; because it mocks current pop culture, the show evolves almost continually to take advantage of tabloid treasures. While minors are welcome at the Sunday matinees, evening shows can get pretty racy (and liquor is involved) so these are restricted to attendees 21 and over.
The hats. Oh, the hats. You’ll never forget the hats.
