Some of the most interesting neighborhoods in the City cluster toward its center. The Civic Center functions as the heart of San Francisco [1]; the beautiful building actually houses the mayor’s office and much of San Francisco’s government. Visitors who last visited San Francisco a decade or more ago will notice that the Civic Center has been cleaned up quite a lot in the last few years. It’s now safe to walk here—at least in the daytime.
As the Civic Center melts towards Hayes Valley, the high culture of San Francisco [1] appears. Near the border you’ll find Davies Symphony Hall [2], home of the world-famous San Francisco Symphony, and the War Memorial Opera House [2]. And servicing these, you’ll find fabulous Hayes Valley hotels [3] and restaurants [4].
