San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (151 3rd St, 415/357-4000, www.sfmoma.org [1], Fri.–Tues 11 a.m.–5:45 p.m., Thurs 11 a.m.–8:45 p.m., adults $12.50, students $7), or SFMOMA as it’s fondly called, is a local favorite. Even if modern art isn’t your favorite, MOMA has a wonderful array of pieces to suit every taste.
Amazing permanent collections include works by Ansel Adams, Henri Matisse, and Shiro Kuramata. Enjoy the paintings and sculptures in the fine arts collections, the wonderful photography, the funky modern furniture, and some truly bizarre installation art.
MOMA brings in a number of special exhibitions each year, featuring the works of the hottest current artists and retrospectives of post-1900 legendary figures.
