Northwest of Stanley [1] via Estancia, Teal Inlet, and Douglas Station, Salvador is the gateway to Cape Bougainville, home to large rockhopper colonies and the occasional macaroni, plus other seabirds and a plethora of sea lions.
In the hands of the same family since its Gibraltarian founder, Andrés Pitaluga, arrived from South America in the 1830s, it also has elephant seal and sea lion colonies on Centre Island in the estuary of Port Salvador (Salvador Water), near the settlement.
From Stanley, Cape Bougainville is a full-day excursion; there are no accommodations, but it has a Portakabin shelter, with sofas and chairs, in case of rough weather.
