Puerto Ángel’s Playa Principal, Playa Panteón [1], and Playa Zipolite [2] are the best places to bargain for a boat and captain to take you and your friends out on a fishing excursion. Prices depend on season, but you can figure on paying around $60 for a half-day excursion for three or four persons with bait and two or three good rods and reels.
During a three-hour outing a few miles offshore, a competently captained boat will typically bring in three or four big, good-eating dorado (mahi-mahi), huachinango (snapper), atún (tuna), or roosterfish. If you’re uncertain about what’s biting, go down to the Playa Principal in Puerto Ángel [1] around 2 or 3 p.m. and see what the boats are bringing in.
Chepe, the highly experienced scuba instructor at Playa Panteón [1], offers fishing trips (three hours in motor lancha for $50, including tackle and bait, for up to four persons.
