United States: The U.S. embassy recently moved from central Panama City [1] to an enormous, fortress-like compound in Clayton, in the former Canal Zone [8]. The American Citizens Service Unit (Building 520, Clayton, tel. 207-7030, fax 207-7303, http://panama.usembassy.gov [9], 8 a.m.–noon Mon.–Fri.) is closed on the last Wednesday of every month and on all U.S. and Panamanian holidays.
