Santa Fé

Santa Fé (pop. 5,764), about 200 kilometers east of Panama City [1], is a surprisingly large and lively town, though not a scenic one. There’s little trace of it today, but the town has a long history thanks to its accessibility: It’s possible to navigate from the Pacific all the way to Santa Fé by river.

Though the place can draw an interesting mix of people from neighboring areas during a festival, there isn’t much reason to visit it. It does, however, have a hospital and other services you would expect to find in a remote provincial town. All buses going at least as far as Metetí [2] pass by it. There are a few basic places to stay for stranded visitors.
