The Paradise Gardens wildlife sanctuary (cell 6615-6618, http://paradisegardensboquete.com [1], 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tues.–Sun., a minimum donation of US$5 requested for adults, children free) is a must-see for anyone with any interest in Panama [2]’s flora and fauna.
Located on the Volcancito road about 700 meters from the CEFATI in Alto Boquete, Paradise Gardens features a menagerie that could include Geoffrey’s tamarins, howler monkeys, white-faced capuchins, a margay, parrots, a striking variety of macaws, kinkajous, (Australian) cockatoos, many butterflies, and other critters both domestic and imported.
The mix changes because this is a wildlife rescue project filled with abandoned “pets” and the offspring of animals killed by hunters.
Paradise Gardens is run by volunteers. Taxis from downtown Boquete [3] cost US$1. Look for the sign on the right past Fresas Mary.
