Although there are four weekly market days, Wednesdays and Saturdays are the biggest. Mondays and Friday are smaller but still interesting. Many Maya vendors sell wild coriander, yellow or white corn, chili peppers of various hues, cassava, tamales wrapped in banana leaves, star fruit, mangoes, and much more.
Many of the women and children bring handmade crafts as well. Laughing children help their parents. If you’re inclined to snap a photo, ask permission first—and perhaps offer to buy something. If refused, smile and put your lens cap in place.
