Dangriga [1] is home to the Warribaggabagga Dancers, the Punta Rebels, the Turtle Shell Band, and the Griga Boyz, among other nationally known party bands. The music and dancing, including syncopated African-flavored rhythms, features interesting mixtures of the various southern Belize cultures.

There is often live music on weekends at Griga 2000, right near the main bridge, and sometimes at the Malibu Beach Club on the north end of town. Be advised that karaoke, especially to American country music, is very popular ’round these parts.

The biggest celebrations of the year are Garifuna Settlement Day [2] (November 19), Boxing Day (December 26), and New Year’s Day, when you’ll find plenty of drumming, dancing, and drinking in the streets. Local hotels are often booked up to a year in advance for dates in November, because of Garifuna families visiting from the United States. At other times of the year, many hotels can arrange a special cultural event for you.
