The biggest show on Caye Caulker [1] is definitely the daily joining of sun and western horizon. Lazy Lizard Bar, at the split, is a fun place to be for this moment. For something more intimate, walk down the west side of the island before sunset and choose an appropriate cocktail spot.
Oceanside (Front St.) is the happening hot spot for punta dancing on Friday and Saturday, with dancing till 4 a.m. (since they soundproofed the place). Tuesday is ladies night, Wednesday and Thursday offer karaoke. There is occasionally a late-night dancehall scene at a ramshackle disco near the back side of town.
Team Trivia Night at the Barrier Reef Sports Bar and Grill (Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:30 p.m.) can get competitive, with the top teams winning money off their bar tabs, not to mention bragging rights. In case of a tie, teams select their top drinker (rather than thinker) for a beer chug race. Barrier Reef also has large-screen TVs with lots of sports.
Outdoor movies are shown at the Paradiso on the beach on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. with a one-drink minimum. Dinner is also served.
Do not leave the island without enjoying a beverage in The I & I Bar (Traveler’s Palm St.), a three-story tower of reggae located in the middle of the island. We could try to explain the swing-seats and Monkey Walk, but you’re better off just going yourself.
