If Campeche [1] has a downside, it’s the quality and value of its lodging. The city center [2] is perfect for spacious colonial hotels and charming little B&Bs, like you find in Mérida [3] and San Cristóbal de las Casas [4].

Unfortunately, in Campeche a hotel’s bright exterior too often gives way to an unimaginative and poorly maintained interior. The lower-mid-range options are decidedly unreliable—if you’re not crashing at a hostel, consider splurging a bit to avoid being disappointed.
