A few kilometers inland from Telchac Puerto [1], on the road to Tixkokob, are the none-too-exciting Maya ruins of Xcambó (Carretera Dzemul-Xcambó Km. 14, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. daily, free).
Various low-lying structures without surface ornamentation surround two plazas. On a clear day, you can see the coast from the top of the highest point, Pyramid of the Cross.
More than 600 skeletons were unearthed during excavations here, but there is no museum and the reconstruction was overzealous, leaving the ruins very artificial looking. The Catholic chapel on a small rise nearby was built from stones of the dismantled pyramids.
