Music is heard all over Mérida [1], and dancing is a way of life. Informal and free concerts and other entertainment are regularly presented for Mérida’s residents and visitors at parks and plazas throughout the city.
Every Saturday night, Calle 60 is closed from the central plaza past Parque Santa Lucía, restaurants bring out tables and chairs, and live bands play salsa and merengue, encouraging dancing in the streets.
Sunday features traditional music and dance performances in the center. In fact, all of the regularly scheduled events throughout the week involve music and dancing in some way, whether to watch or to join in.
