In Mexico, a restaurante (rays-tah-oo-RAHN-tay) generally implies a fairly fancy joint, with prices to match. The food and atmosphere, however, may be more to your liking at other types of eateries (in approximate descending order of formality and price): comedor (dining room), cafetería (coffee shop), cenaduría (light supper only, from about 6 p.m.), fonda (permanent food stall), lonchería (breakfast and sandwich counter), jugería (juice and sandwich bar), and taquería (often, but not always, a street stand).
