San Blas [1] visitors ordinarily spend little of their time shopping. Although San Blas has relatively few handicrafts sources, the shop at the Hotel Garza Canela has arguably the finest for-sale handicrafts collections in Nayarit state. Lovingly selected pieces from the famous Pacific Coast crafts centers—Guadalajara, Tlaquepaque, Tonalá, Pátzcuaro, Olinalá, Taxco, Oaxaca, and elsewhere—decorate the shop’s cabinets, counters, and shelves.
You’ll also find many common but nevertheless attractive handicrafts assortments in the crafts stalls that daily occupy the San Blas main plaza.
For used clothes and a little bit of everything else, a flea market (known in Mexico as a tianguis) operates on Calle Canalizo a block past the bus station (away from the jardín) Saturday morning and early afternoon.
Up-to-date photography services and supplies have arrived in San Blas, at Foto Studio America (Juárez 91, tel. 323/285-1209, 8 a.m.–2 p.m. and 4–9 p.m. daily), next to Restaurant McDonald. Here, find many cameras, films, and both color and black-and-white film and digital developing service.
