Guayabitos [1] and La Peñita (pop. around 10,000) represent practically a single town. Guayabitos has the hotels and the scenic beach-village ambience, while two miles north La Peñita’s main street, Emiliano Zapata, bustles with stores, restaurants, a bank, and a bus station.
Guayabitos’s main street, Avenida del Sol Nuevo, curves lazily for about a mile parallel to the beach. From the Avenida, several short streets and andandos (walkways) lead to a line of retornos (cul-de-sacs). The choicest of Guayabitos’s community of small hotels, bungalow complexes, and trailer parks lie here within a block of the beach. You will also find several good restaurants nearby.
