The charming hostel has simple and tasteful rooms, with cable TV and WiFi, arranged above a courtyard, adorned with Huanchaco’s caballitos de totora, or totora-reed boats. There are nice reading areas downstairs and restaurant with offers room service.
Hotel San Andrés (Juan Pablo II 157, tel. 044/25-3660, www.hotelsanandres.com , US$39 s, US$52 d, breakfast included) is a clean and comfortable modern hotel that is walking distance to Trujillo’s center. It has restaurant, rooftop pool, and all the amenities. Rooms have telephones, WiFi, cable TV, and room service.

Gran Hotel El Golf–Centro de Convenciones Truxillo (Los Cocoteros 505, Urbanización El Golf, tel. 044/48-4150, www.granhotel.pe , US$104 s or d, US$154 suites) is a five-star hotel classic in the city. The hotel has 120 spacious and comfortable rooms and nine suites arranged around gardens and a central pool. It is a 10-minute drive outside of town, but the relaxed setting and clean air are worth it. The facilities include two saunas, an indoor pool, and an excellent restaurant. Tee times can be arranged to the club’s golf course across the street.

The hotel offers a modern spa (massages start at US$22 pp), well-equipped rooms including WiFi and air-conditioning, excellent service, and a good breakfast buffet. Transportation to and from the airport is included.
With its colonial facade and a sun-filled atrium, Libertador Trujillo Hotel (Independencia 485, Plaza de Armas, tel. 044/23-2741, www.libertador.com.pe , US$252 standard, US$284 junior suite) is the four-star hotel in town. A member of the Peruvian luxury hotel chain Libertador, it is located on the north side of the Plaza de Armas. All 79 rooms are large and modern, with touches of colonial decor, and are sheltered from outside noise. All the usual services are available, as well as WiFi, a sauna, buffet breakfast, gym, and jewelry shop.
Las Bóvedas Restaurant, off the lobby, serves very good comida criolla, northern Peruvian specialties, and international cuisine. The elegant Malabrigo Bar, with dark wood, leather chairs, and windows looking over the square, is a good place for an evening cocktail.
