After a 15-year partnership, GreenTracks, a Colorado-based ecotourism agency, has recently taken over the classic riverboat company Amazon Tours & Cruises. GreenTracks (U.S. tel. 800/423-2791, information [at] amazontours [dot] net, www.amazontours.net [1], seven days/six nights US$1,995 pp) continues to maintain the quality of trips given by Amazon Tours & Cruises.
It offers midlevel air-conditioned cruises, though its boats are not as luxurious as those of Jungle Expeditions [2]. All-inclusive tours begin and end with pickup from the Iquitos [3] airport and include good food, cabins with private baths, excellent guides, and a full program of activities.
GreenTracks constantly adapts its itinerary to take advantage of the activity of different wildlife, but the basic trip includes early-morning canoe trips to see monkeys, hoatzin viewing, a visit to a local village [4], and, of course, some lounging on the boat deck. Group size ranges 8–12, and cabins sleep 2–3 people. Basic GreenTracks cruises are led by a trained naturalist guide, and the company also offers zoologist-led trips for US$2,195. Reservations must be made from abroad.
