This stunning azure river flows through the jungle near Laguna Lachuá National Park [1]. Situated on the banks of this river in the middle of a 600-square-kilometer forest reserve is the community of Rokj’á Pomtilá (tel. 5381-1970 or 4621-6508).
From this fantastic riverside setting, you can enjoy guided hikes into the surrounding rainforest to view abundant plant and animal life as well as explore lagoons, caves, and waterfalls.
Proyecto Eco-Quetzal (2a Calle 14-36 Zona 1, tel. 7952-1047, bidaspeq [at] hotmail [dot] com, www.ecoquetzal.org [2]) can arrange homestays with local villagers. A two-night stay at Rokj’á Pomtilá costs $45, not including transportation.
