Downtown Retalhuleu [1]’s main attraction, aside from the central square, is the Museo de Arqueología y Etnología (6a Avenida 5-68 Zona 1, 8 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Tues.–Sat., 9 a.m.–noon Sun., $1.50 admission,) featuring archaeological relics on the ground floor and a collection of historical photographs from various stages of the city’s past on the second floor.

Otherwise, the major attractions in this area are outside of town.
