Nature Conservancy identifies species in need of protection and acquires land to protect them. The Nature Conservancy currently has projects in La Amistad International Peace Park [7] and Corcovado National Park [8]. Its Latin America division works closely with Fundación Neotrópica and other organizations.

The Neotropic Foundation, or Fundación Neotrópica, promotes sustainable development and conservation among local communities. It also arranges “debt-for-nature” swaps. Along with many other projects throughout the country, they maintain trails and offer guided hikes on the Osa Peninsula [10].

Organization for Tropical Studies is dedicated to biological research in tropical environments. It offers Rainforest Ecology Workshops in Costa Rica, where it has three research facilities and lodges open to the public at La Selva [12], Palo Verde National Park [13], and Las Cruces [14].
