French designer Virginie Fournier moved to Beijing in 1998 and with two friends set up Shanghai Trio: a socially responsible brand selling homeware, accessories, and gifts. The brand now has stores as far afield as South Africa and Belgium.

Among this Beijing branch’s most popular items are industrial-chic electrician bags, percale duvet covers, and home accessories made of cotton, bamboo, and linen. Shanghai Trio’s bags and purses make great, unusual gifts that are eco-friendly too. Fournier uses old fabric to create her designs.

Shanghai Trio’s clothing items are mostly modern takes on traditional Chinese garments, and the children’s wear is particularly covetable.
