As soon as you glimpse the giant Disney and Warner characters that welcome guests into the Wild Insect Kingdom, you know you’re in for an interesting couple of hours. More of a menagerie than an insect museum, this place has turtles, butterflies, goats, rabbits, and even owls.
The insect part is dispensed with pretty early on, after a foray through an oddly antiquated “jungle” greenhouse flanked with sorry-looking lizards and spiders in tanks. The real fun starts once you get into the museum proper.
There’s a mock up of a rainforest, a petting zoo with hamsters and guinea pigs (and a rogue goat or two), and a whole room devoted to gorgeous neon Lepidoptera. It’s not your average museum, and that’s what makes it so much fun.
