A fun concept that’s a world away from the jostling and haggling of the markets, Fengguo Box Store is a brick-and-mortar version of the e-commerce craft website Etsy.

For a couple of hundred yuan a month, vendors can rent a display box to showcase their goods. The only stipulation is that everything must be made by hand.

What’s being sold depends on when you go, but the mainstays are quirky and original. You’ll find anything from ornaments, stationery, and artwork to items of clothing and hand-sewn notebooks.

Fengguo is a treasure trove of kitschy, unusual gifts that make for a refreshing change from the norm.
