The decor is theme-park barbecue restaurant—red-checked tablecloths, a 1959 Chevy bumper hanging over the door, country-primitive versions of the Stars and Stripes everywhere, and cocktails served in mason jars—but this makes Old Glory a great place to take the kids or go with a group that likes to roll up their sleeves and tackle a rack of ribs or a giant pulled pork sandwich.
A basket of biscuits and cornbread arrives with the drinks, served with honey-peach butter that will entice you into swabbing out the butter dishes’ remnants with a piece of bread or your finger.
The menu features a combination of regional barbecues, Texas brisket, North Carolina pulled pork, chicken, and St. Louis ribs, served with a choice of sauces and sides.
Don’t expect to have the world’s best ’cue (after all, Old Glory lacks the requisite outrageous neon sign, nor is it a shack off in the woods near Tuscaloosa, Alabama), but go hungry because the portions are large, and be willing to try all the sauces and maybe one of the 82 bourbons on offer.
