Just two minutes from the Thong Lo Skytrain station, on the corner of Soi 38 and Sukhumvit, is a little neighborhood that becomes a mecca for street-food enthusiasts every night.
If eating right out in the middle of a crowded street is a little intimidating, but you still want to try some of the amazing, inexpensive casual meals Bangkok [1] is known for, this is the place for you.
On the left side of the soi are a handful of small, casual shophouse restaurants where you can sit down at a table. Order anything from the menu there (even a bottle of beer is sufficient), then head outside to the various stalls and see what else you’d like to try. When you order, just point to the restaurant and they’ll bring the dishes to you at your table.
There’s usually a khaokhamu vendor, serving slow-braised pork leg with rice and a rich gravy (a dish that’s sometimes hard to find in Bangkok and, when you do find it, often sold out for the day!), as well as Isan specialties, noodle soups, and desserts. When in season, there’s even a mango sticky-rice vendor.
