Bangkok [2] goes wild during this traditional new year’s celebration, from April 13 to 15. For three full days, locals and tourists pour out into the streets to pour water on each other.
The ritual was probably originally intended to symbolically wash away sins and bad luck. Nowadays people bring out big water guns and buckets of water, especially around the Khao San Road, Silom, and Nana areas, so expect to get soaked.
It can be a lot of fun, but if you’re visiting during this time, some businesses will be closed.
