Before this sprawling Italianate mansion was taken over by the Thai government, it was the private home of an aristocratic general and known as Baan Norasingh. Today it is the prime minister’s official office and is also the site of many significant government meetings.
This area has been ground zero for the many political demonstrations in Bangkok [1] over the last few years and, at times, the climate has gotten violent.
