Chile’s national dance is the cueca, an innocently suggestive cock-and-hen courtship ritual that’s a staple of mid-September’s patriotic holidays and many rural festivals. While tango is an Argentine import, it has devoted adherents in Santiago [1], Valparaíso [2], and some other cities.
Performances of classical and modern dance, such as ballet, take place at formal venues such as Santiago’s Teatro Municipal or Providencia [3]’s Teatro de la Universidad de Chile.
