Offering awesome views from its hillside cul-de-sac,
Hotel Posada Fueguina (Lasserre 438, tel. 02901/423467, www.posadafueguina.com.ar [1], US$97/130–123/163 s/d) has added cabañas to handle any overflow. The spacious, three-star Hotel Albatros (Av. Maipú 505, tel. 02901/433446, www.albatroshotel.com.ar [2], US$150 s or d) is the pick of the waterfront accommodations.
In a densely wooded setting about 1.5 kilometers northeast of downtown, Patagonia Villa Lodge (Bahía Buen Suceso 563, tel. 02901/435937, www.patagoniavilla.com [3], US$190 s or d) has just four rooms in luminous semidetached cabins with a magnificently rustic architecture and amenities such as Jacuzzis and wireless Internet. There is one darker bargain double (US$95) that suffers only by comparison with the others; elsewhere in town, it would count among the best available. Owner Luciana Lupotti, a former Florida exchange student, speaks fluent English. Rates include breakfast and airport pickup/dropoff.
The interior is more impressive than the drab exterior at the luxury Hotel del Glaciar (Luis Martial 2355, tel. 02901/430640, www.hoteldelglaciar.com [4], US$189 s or d). At kilometer 3.5 on the Martial Glacier road, each room has either a mountain or ocean view.
At kilometer 3, the nearby
Hotel y Resort Las Hayas (Luis Martial 1650, tel. 02901/430710, fax 02901/430719, www.lashayas.com.ar [5], US$190 s or d) enjoys nearly all conceivable luxuries, including an elaborate buffet breakfast, gym, sauna, Jacuzzi, and heated indoor pool; it picks up guests at the airport and offers a regular downtown shuttle. Behind its utilitarian exterior, some of its 102 rooms suffer from hideous decor—the wallpaper is to cringe at—but all are comfortable and its staff are highly professional.
