Villa Mañihuales, a pioneer village 76 kilometers north of Coyhaique [1] via the roundabout Viviana junction, is the headquarters for Reserva Nacional Mañihuales, a 3,596-hectare forest reserve that takes its name from the native mañío (Podocarpus) forest.
Facilities at Conaf’s five-site Camping Las Lavanderas (US$6.50 for up to six persons) include picnic tables and toilets, but cold showers only. Residencial Mañiguales (Ibar 280, tel. 067/431403, US$15 pp with breakfast) has rooms with shared bath; there are a couple of simple eateries.
All buses from Coyhaique [1] pass through town en route to northbound Carretera Austral destinations.
