Frutillar [1]’s major annual event is the Semanas Musicales de Frutillar (www.semanasmusicales.cl [2]), a 10-day extravaganza that has showcased classical, jazz, and ethnic music since 1968. From January 27 to February 5, events take place both during the daytime and at night, when performances are both more formal and more expensive.

Many recitals will eventually take place at the still unfinished Teatro del Lago (tel. 065/422977, www.teatrodellago.cl [3]), on lakeshore landfill between Antonio Varas and Manuel Rodríguez; the series also includes concerts in regional cities such as Osorno [4] and Puerto Montt [5].

The next biggest event is November’s Semana Frutillarina, celebrating its founding as a lakeport in 1856.
