Stone tools, early Mapuche ceramics, and contemporary indigenous jewelry, silver, and leatherwork constitute the collections of the Museo Histórico y Arqueológico de Villarrica (Pedro de Valdivia 1050, tel. 045/413445). Hours are 9 a.m.–1 p.m. and 3:30–7:30 p.m. weekdays; admission costs US$0.50.
Directly in front of the museo stands the landmark Ruca, a traditional Mapuche dwelling thickly thatched with junquillo and totora reeds.
The lakefront Embarcadero, featuring a cluster of small jetties toward the foot of General Körner, is the starting point for water-based excursions.
