Towering just west of Parque Nacional Conguillío [1]’s geographic center, glacier-covered Volcán Llaima is a Holocene structure of accumulated lava flows within an eight-kilometer-wide caldera that exploded about 7,200 years ago.
It has two active craters, one on the summit and another on its southeastern shoulder.
